Polypropylene bulkhead fittings in 2", 3" and 4" — the sizes you need for bottom drains and large gravity returns.

Why polypropylene on the big sizes

Rigid PVC is strong but brittle. Polypropylene has considerably better impact resistance and more give, which matters on a large flange: a 4" bulkhead takes real torque going in, and PP tolerates that where PVC can crack. That's why the trade uses PP for the big penetrations and PVC for the small ones.

Important: these are threaded, not glued

Polypropylene cannot be solvent welded. These fittings are threaded on both ends, so you connect them with PVC male adapters and PTFE tape rather than gluing pipe straight in. Order your adapters at the same time — it's the part people forget and then can't finish the job.

    Fitting it properly

    • Gasket on the flange side, inside the pond. Nut on the dry side.
    • Hand tight plus a fraction of a turn. Never wrench it.
    • The hole is a good deal larger than the nominal size. Confirm the diameter before cutting — especially on a concrete wall.
    • EPDM gaskets are the right choice for pond water and are what these normally ship with.

    Why buy from ChampKoi?

ChampKoi has supplied koi keepers from our San Jose, California facility since 1998. Building a bottom drain? Talk to us before you pour concrete — it's the one part of a pond you can't redo later.
