Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions our customers have about our ordering, pickup, and shipping procedures.

1. Koi Fish Orders

What happens after I place a koi fish order?

Once you place an order for koi, here’s what happens:

  • Health Check: We verify that the koi you ordered is available and in good health.
  • Holding Process:
    • For smaller koi, we transfer them to a holding tank labeled with your name.
    • For larger koi, we tag the fish as sold to ensure it’s reserved for you.
  • Stop Feeding: We immediately stop feeding the koi you’ve purchased. This ensures the water quality remains optimal and the koi is in good health when it’s time for pickup or shipping.

What if the koi I ordered is unavailable?

If there are any issues with availability or health concerns with your koi, we will reach out to you promptly to discuss alternatives.

2. Koi Products (Food, Equipment, Etc.)

How are my koi products processed?

For koi food, pond equipment, and other supplies:

  • We locate your ordered items and move them to a designated pickup area with your name attached.
  • Out-of-Stock Items: If an item is not in stock, we’ll contact you to discuss alternatives or to ask if you prefer to wait for restocking.

    3. Local Pickup

    How do I know when my order is ready for pickup?

    Once your koi or koi products are prepared for pickup, we mark the order as ready. You’ll receive a notification that your order is available for pickup during our business hours:
    Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

    4. Shipping

    How do koi fish orders get shipped?

    We use expedited shipping to ensure your koi arrives in excellent health. Here’s the process:

    • Preferred Arrival Date: During checkout, you can select your preferred arrival date. If no date is chosen, we’ll contact you to confirm one.
    • Shipping Schedule: We ship the koi one day before your chosen arrival date using either UPS Next Day Air, UPS Next Day Air Early, or Southwest Air Cargo.
    • Health Check & Weather Monitoring: On the shipping day, we inspect your koi for any health issues and monitor weather conditions to avoid delays.
    • Packaging & Notification: Once the koi is packaged and ready to go, we generate the shipping label and provide you with tracking information. You’ll receive a notification so you can monitor your shipment.

    When can I expect my koi fish to arrive?

    • UPS Next Day Air: Arrival between 10am and 12pm.
    • UPS Next Day Air Early: Arrival between 8am and 9:30am.
    • Southwest Air Cargo: Arrival time depends on the flight schedule, and we’ll confirm details with you before booking.

    Can multiple koi orders be combined?

    Yes! If multiple orders are set to ship on the same day, we combine them, which may reduce shipping costs. Any savings will be passed on to you.

    How are koi products shipped?

    • Shipping Method: Koi products (such as food and pond equipment) are shipped via UPS Ground.
    • Same-Day Shipping: If you place your order before 3pm during business hours, we typically process and ship it on the same day. Once shipped, you’ll receive tracking information to monitor your package.

    5. Frequently Asked Questions

    What if there’s a delay with my shipment?

    In case of any anticipated delays (due to weather or other conditions), we’ll immediately notify you to reschedule the shipping date. We prioritize the safety and health of your koi in all circumstances.

    Can I change my preferred arrival date?

    Yes, you can modify your preferred arrival date as long as we haven’t shipped your koi yet. Contact us as soon as possible to make adjustments.

    Do you offer international shipping for koi or koi products?

    At this time, we only ship koi fish and products within the continental United States.

    Example of Shipping Cost Savings by Combining Orders

    Imagine you’ve placed two separate orders with Champion Nishikigoi:
    1. Order 1: A medium box with one koi.
    2. Order 2: A small box with another koi.

    If we ship these orders separately:
    • The medium box might cost $80 to ship with UPS Next Day Air.
    • The small box might cost $60 to ship with the same service.

    So, shipping both separately would cost around $140.

    Combined Shipment Option:
    Instead of shipping two separate boxes, we can often combine orders into one larger box.
    • In this case, we could use a large box to fit both koi, and this might cost only $110 to ship with UPS Next Day Air.

    By combining the orders, you save $30 on shipping costs.

     

    Example of Savings with Southwest Air Cargo

    If you’ve placed multiple orders or if we have enough customers with orders shipping to the same area, we may also be able to use Southwest Air Cargo for delivery, which can often provide even greater savings.

    For example:
    Shipping several koi individually with UPS Next Day Air might cost $300 in total.
    However, if we meet the requirements to ship via Southwest Air Cargo, the combined cost could be reduced to $160 for the whole shipment, a savings of $140.

    How We Pass Savings On to You

    When we successfully combine orders or qualify for a more economical shipping method, we automatically pass these savings on to you. You’ll receive the final, adjusted shipping cost on the day of shipping along with tracking details for your combined shipment.
