Takigawa Koi Farm is in Kyomaru, Sera, in the hill country of Hiroshima Prefecture, and it is a Gosanke farm with a Showa push. Hiroaki Takigawa founded it after working at Sakai Fish Farm in the years when Sakai was a three-man operation; he left to breed his own fish. His sons Hassei and Ryotoku now do most of the work, and Hassei has said plainly that Showa is the axis he wants the farm known for.
Kohaku was the main line for decades and Sakai bloodlines are still in the parent ponds. The farm's early name, though, was made on Goshiki and Goromo, and it still breeds both, along with Kujaku and a few Karashigoi and Ginrin plain-colour fish. Japanese dealer listings describe it for large Gosanke plus Goromo, Goshiki and Kujaku. Kawarimono are a sideline here.
Hassei told Monthly Nishikigoi in March 2025 that the farm spawns 10 to 15 sets a year, grows fry across about 16,000 square metres of mud pond, uses Dainichi parent stock for its Showa, and sells roughly 70 percent of its production abroad. A Takigawa-bred Sanke won the 40 cm class at the 55th All Japan Nishikigoi Show in January 2025.
Buy Takigawa for Showa and Sanke in the tosai to nisai range, and for Goshiki if you like the variety. ChampKoi imports koi from Takigawa Koi Farm.
