Takatatsu Koi Farm is a small family farm in Takezawa, up in the Yamakoshi hills above Nagaoka, and the reason to buy from it is Kumonryu and Kin Showa. Takatatsu-bred Kumonryu have won their class at the All Japan Nishikigoi Show three times since 2020, in the 55 cm, 50 cm and 60 cm divisions, and its Kin Showa (judged as Hikari Utsuri) won the 55 cm class twice and the 70 cm class once over the same stretch. For a farm this size, that is a rare record in one corner of the hobby.
The registered representative is Kunitoshi Takano. Ochiba, Ginrin Ochiba, Matsukawabake, Beni Kikokuryu, Doitsu Showa, Goromo, Kujaku and Chagoi fill out the list, with Kohaku, Sanke and Showa bred alongside them. Exporters who visit describe an old hillside farm where a patient look through the ponds pays off. The Takatatsu fish on our site are mostly the black-and-white and metallic Kawarimono: Matsukawabake, Kumonryu, Kikokuryu and Karasugoi.
What Takatatsu is not is a Gosanke farm. If you want a show Kohaku, look at Isa or Marudo. Come here for a Kumonryu whose sumi will keep shifting for years, an Ochiba with clean reticulation, or a Kin Showa whose metallic skin holds up as the fish grows. ChampKoi imports koi from Takatatsu Koi Farm.
You will see the name spelled Takatetsu on some of our older listings. Same farm. The kanji é«é read Takatatsu, which is how the farm and every Japanese exporter write it.
