A koi sock net is how Japanese breeders move fish, and once you have used one you will not go back to a pan net for anything over 12 inches. The sock holds water, so the koi is cradled in a column of water the whole way instead of taking its own weight on fins and scales. Transfers stop being the risky part of owning good fish.

    How it works

    • Guide the koi into the sock head-first. The knotless soft mesh holds water around the fish.
    • Lift and carry. The fish stays submerged inside the sock, calm, with nothing pressing on its body.
    • At the destination, lower the sock and let the fish swim out through the easy-release bottom. You never touch the fish and never lift it against the mesh.

    Sizes

    • 12" hoop with 16" wood handle, black or blue mesh, $74.99
    • 14" hoop with 16" wood handle, black or blue mesh, $79.99

The 12" suits koi to around 18 inches. Pick the 14" if your fish are bigger or you want one net for everything; the metal hoop and nylon mesh are rated for 2 to 3 foot fish.

    Sock net or pan net

Keep both. The shallow pan net is for steering and lifting small koi at the surface. The sock is for moving anything you care about: show entries, breeder purchases, spring moves from the winter holding tank. If you buy one net for handling good koi, buy the sock. We also carry a stainless-hoop version with longer handles.

    Why buy from ChampKoi?

We net and move koi every working day at our San Jose facility, and sock nets are what we use for anything over a foot. Call us if you are unsure which size fits your fish.
