The pan net is the classic Japanese koi net: a flat, shallow pan of fine soft mesh on a wooden pole. Its job is guiding, not lifting — you steer the koi at the surface and walk it into a viewing bowl or a sock net. The shallow pan is the point: a koi can't dive in it, can't roll in it, and never hangs in the mesh.
Specifications
- Fine 2 mm × 2 mm mesh screen — soft on fins and slime coat
- 16" pan with 24" wood handle — tanks and quarantine tubs
- 16" pan with 44" wood handle — small ponds and pond edges
- 20" pan with 64" wood handle — bigger koi, deeper reach
Using it right
Move slowly and let the pan do the herding; a chased koi is a stressed koi. Guide the fish over the pan, raise it to the surface, and steer. If the fish needs to leave the water, that's the sock net's job — pan to sock is the two-net handoff Japanese breeders use for everything valuable. Bigger pond? The 24"–40" catch nets on telescopic poles are the reach tools.
Why buy from ChampKoi?
We net and move koi every working day at our San Jose facility, and the pan-to-sock handoff is how every valuable fish here travels.
