Collection: Hi-Silk Koi Food
Hi-Silk 21 is made in Japan by Kawaguchi Shoten, a company from Koga, Ibaraki that has spent over a century in the silk trade — which is exactly why this food exists. Long before pellet foods, Japanese breeders fed koi silkworm pupae, the silk industry's protein-rich byproduct, and prized what it did for growth. Hi-Silk 21 is that tradition in a modern floating pellet: real dried silkworm pupae as the second ingredient after fish meal, plus silk powder, at 43%+ crude protein.
It's a warm-water growth food with a skin-quality angle: the amino-acid profile of silkworm pupae closely matches the koi's own, and the silk powder is credited by its developers with supporting clean, bright shiroji — the snow-white ground that makes a pattern read. Per Kodama Koi Farm, who co-developed the formula, it was designed for growth "without the bulging stomach."
How to feed it: above 68°F — this is a high-protein summer food, not a year-rounder. Many keepers pair it with a color-enhancing food so the red doesn't thin while the fish grows fast. Step down to a wheat germ diet as water cools in fall.
