Murata Koi Farm breeds Kohaku, and Kohaku is the reason to buy from Murata. Shinji Murata's farm is in Himizo, Uonuma City, about an hour's drive from Nagaoka and well off the Ojiya and Yamakoshi circuit, and the fish make the trip worthwhile: clean white skin, deep beni and good frame. They place at the big Niigata shows. At the 57th Niigata Prefecture Nishikigoi Show in October 2017 an 84 cm Murata Kohaku took third overall, the Niigata Ornamental Fish Prize, behind two Marudo Kohaku.
Murata is not a famous name outside Japan. Dealers who know the farm say the same thing: you can buy a Kohaku here at a price that would be much higher for comparable quality from a household-name breeder. If you want a Kohaku with size potential and you do not need the breeder's name to impress anyone, this is a good place to spend the money.
The farm does not publish a founding year or a full show record, so you will not find them here.
